XMR to BTC: how to swap Monero for Bitcoin.

Swapping XMR to BTC is a common move for users who want to convert Monero holdings to Bitcoin's liquidity. Here is how to do it and what to know.

By Published 4 min read

Swapping Monero (XMR) to Bitcoin (BTC) is one of the most commonly requested pairs on non-custodial exchange services. The reasons vary — taking profits in Bitcoin, moving to an asset with wider acceptance, or bridging between privacy-focused holdings and more liquid ones. The process is the same regardless of the reason.

How to swap XMR to BTC

Use a non-custodial instant swap service. Select Monero as the send asset and Bitcoin as the receive asset. Enter the amount of XMR you want to send. Provide your Bitcoin wallet address — a standard address beginning with "1", "3", or "bc1". The service generates a Monero deposit address. Send XMR from your Monero wallet to that address. When the Monero transaction confirms (typically 2–4 minutes at default priority), the service processes the conversion and sends Bitcoin to your provided address.

On Terce: select XMR → BTC → enter amount → paste Bitcoin address → send XMR to deposit address → BTC arrives. No account. No KYC.

What to expect on timing

The total time from sending XMR to receiving BTC is typically 15–30 minutes. Monero confirmations take about 2 minutes each, and most services require 10 confirmations before processing the output — adding roughly 20 minutes. Bitcoin's output transaction then needs to confirm on the Bitcoin network, which adds another 10–60 minutes depending on network conditions and the fee level the service uses.

The privacy consideration

Monero transactions are private at the protocol level — your XMR send leaves no public record identifying you as the sender. The Bitcoin you receive, however, arrives at a Bitcoin address on the transparent Bitcoin blockchain. From that point forward, the Bitcoin is subject to standard Bitcoin chain analysis. If you receive BTC from an XMR swap and then send it to a KYC-linked exchange, that exchange can see the receiving Bitcoin address — they just cannot see where it came from on the Monero side.

XMR to BTC swaps on Terce require no account and no KYC. Rate is floating and locked at the moment your XMR deposit confirms on the Monero network.
