How to buy Zcash (ZEC): the short version.

Zcash is available on major exchanges and via non-custodial swap. Here is how to acquire it quickly depending on where you are starting from.

Zcash is one of the more accessible privacy-oriented cryptocurrencies — it remains listed on Coinbase, Kraken, and several other major platforms in most jurisdictions. Buying it is straightforward once you know which path fits your situation.

Starting from fiat with an existing exchange account

If you have a Coinbase, Kraken, or Gemini account, Zcash is available there. Search for ZEC, use the standard buy interface, and it settles immediately. Identity verification is required on all of these platforms. This is the fastest path if you already have an account and are not concerned about KYC.

Starting from another cryptocurrency

If you hold Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, Monero, or any other supported asset and want ZEC without creating a new exchange account, a non-custodial instant swap is the faster option. Send any supported asset to Terce, provide your Zcash wallet address, and ZEC arrives in your wallet in minutes. No account. No identity verification. Rate locked at the moment your deposit confirms.

One decision to make before you buy

Zcash has two address types: transparent (t-addresses, fully public) and shielded (z-addresses, private via zk-SNARKs). If privacy is why you want Zcash, you need a wallet that supports shielded addresses and you need to use one. Zashi is the recommended wallet — it defaults to shielded addresses and is available for iOS and Android. Sending ZEC to a transparent address and then attempting to "shield" it creates a public transaction record of the transfer. Starting shielded is cleaner.

Terce sends ZEC to whichever address you provide — shielded or transparent. Provide a z-address from Zashi if privacy matters to you. The exchange itself is non-custodial and requires no account regardless.
